Cheap Art Supplies
I enjoy keeping a strong focus on painting with cheap art supplies in my life. A masterpiece of contemporary painting built by brush and oils onto canvas may not be the easiest thing to create. But your own, private masterpiece is. And at the end of the day, the journey of the painter, which can be just about spiritual, is all about that. Creating private works of art and letting the beauty you have inside you shine through.

Every morning, I love to set myself up to paint by a good window in my home before I have to get ready for work. I wake up early to do this, as this time is special for me. It calms me down and gets me centered and prepared to meet with the outside world again. What I mean by a good window, is simply one that gets the most light. I find that, that's the best way to put the free time I have to good use. By catching the first light of the morning, through a window with a nice, Eastern exposure. I always have my easel placed right there and ready for me to get going, as a matter of fact.
Sometimes I get ready for my little, morning ritual the night before. This actually makes things a little bit easier for those days when I hit the snooze button on my alarm clock one too many times. For one of those days, it's great to have your cheap art supplies already waiting for you when you get to the canvas. It's nice to have all the paints you want to use right there and ready to go, and the brushes all clean so you just have to pick your favorite one up and begin.
It doesn't have to be a long ritual for anyone who tries it out. I find that an hour or even a half-an-hour spent relaxed, in the moment, and just painting away is enough to help me get my day started right. I don't try to finish paintings necessarily. Just to add a little extra here and there, bringing them that much closer to done.
For those of you who have never tried a little early day stint with nothing but your vision and some cheap art supplies, I can vouch for the benefits. I've been doing it for years, and I find that absolutely nothing is more relaxing. The stress of everything that you have ahead of you just melts away because all you care about for those few precious moments is your art. That beats a cup of coffee and a donut any time for me.
