I have many good friends who are artists. I only dabble in it myself. The drive was never quite there for me to push my own painting to the next level. My artist friends are happy and successful enough in their own work, and if this is what suits you, I would recommend it completely. But that was always the rub for me. Pursuing it as a profession turned it into work.
Call me a lazy painter if you will, but all I want to do is create my own little windows into the world as I see it. I want to look at blank, cheap stretched canvas and see something more than what's there. I want to dip my brush into paint and then try to create what it is that I see for everyone else to enjoy. If you haven't tried it, you really must.
For me, painting is a way that a simple man can provide the world with some sort of beauty. Not everyone is lucky enough to have the resources to build a tower, or design a bronze statue, or anything like that. But many people can afford the basic tools required to get started as an artist. All you really need are some brushes, a set of paints, and some spare time to get you started off right.
You need a vision as well. That can be counted. But it doesn't have to be a remarkable vision. Anything that you find to be beautiful is great for the casual painter. It can be what you see outside your window everyday. It can be a park or waterfall that you love going to. You can find beauty in painting people or cities, animals or fruit. Or nothing concrete at all. Abstract art can be very engaging for the viewer.
So, don't be held back by the fear of what you'll come up with. Many people let the prospect of failure or of something not turning out exactly as they would like hold them back. Don't be one of those. Be the one who sets up their cheap stretched canvas and puts whatever it is that you have inside you down on it. You might be surprised at what you find there.
Hi, I like what I just read here. 10 minutes ago I watched milk swirling into a glass of ice coffee and I thought it was beautiful and tried to show it to my hubby who saw nothing. lol, i dont paint but wish I could. Thanks
